The problem was prophecy. More specifically, the prophecy preordaining that he was to die by the hand of the woman he loved. Conceiving a child on the very night of her betrayal. Which it claimed, would grow to be the world’s only chance at stopping some cataclysmic evil from tearing the world asunder.
The dreadful moment he’d first read it still stood, as ardently in his minds-eye, as the day it happened. Those damning words burnt into his memory like a brand heated in Hell’s own furnace.
They went like this;
A threat unparalleled in an age of magic will descend upon the world unhindered. Unless the Child of Three Bloods, whom was fathered by the Wizard King, and birthed by Loves Betrayer. Rises up and unites the Divided Lands to face an Undying evil.
A disturbing prospect to say the least. But then, he wouldn’t be around to witness it. So what’d he care? After all, he did his part… Made his sacrifice.
Sagen D’Terros, Wizard King of the Dar’Kitherin reminisced back to that terrible night when he’d first deciphered the cryptic message that he’d later find out to be his elegy. Back before he’d even met the woman that’d become his undoing. Back when he was still hopeful that the King in the prophecy was another. Or that the event had already come to past unnoticed.
Then it happened, and not but two weeks prior to this very night. One of his agents came to him with the fatale news.. His enemies had planted a spy within his court.
The man had done a fantastic job. How he’d gotten the information, Sagen could only guess, and was somewhat troubled by the fact that he’d have to kill one of his best spies. But information of this sort couldn’t risk a leak. It’d ruin everything he worked for, and now he realized.. It’d ruin the worlds only chance of salvation.
For Sagen, news of the infiltration was not nearly so severe as the few minor details that came with it.. The trespasser was a woman. A Half-Elvin woman. Who’d somehow obtained a ring spelled with a magic so ancient, that it was undetectable. Even to a Wizard as powerful as himself.
No, he hadn’t believed the poor smuck in the prophecy was himself. Until he’d heard that. It had after all come out of a book that was over a millennia old. He being far from the first Wizard King, and surely not last. It’d been just a little too far-fetched to believe that after over a thousand years. A prophecy would come into play.. and he’d be its victim.
Then came that dreadfully invaluable piece of information. Which in but an instant after its being spoken. Brought understanding to the part of the prophecy which had remained a mystery to him for so long.
“-the Child of Three Bloods-”
If his mistress Kaytera was the infiltrator, Which, he was now certain that she was. Then that meant she wasn’t Dar’Kitherin at all. But a Fal’Vernan half-elf. Thus any child she he gave her would be not only Fal’Vernan and Dar’Kitherin but Human as well.. Hence, a “Child of Three Bloods”.
As much as he wished it different. There was no longer any doubt in Sagen’s mind as too the validity of the prophecy, and rather or not he was the named “Wizard King”.
It still seemed strange, even after all his countless years studying the subject. How prophecy always had a way of coming true. Now it came for him. Not just any prophecy. But one that he himself had read and translated. Fate it seemed, was the cruelest bitch of all.
