There was a full moon visible through the open balcony doors. A warm breeze teasing the curtains as it whispered through the room. Bringing a soothing sensation to Sagen as it dried the sweat from his chest.
What an exquisite night, he thought. Glancing over at the gorgeous woman who lay, still panting at his side.
Sagen poured himself a glass of wine from the decanter on the bedside table. Allowing the taste to play across his tongue before he swallowed. The texture was a little off. Not much. But there was something there that wasn’t meant to be.. Or was it? Regardless, the wine was good. Imported all the way from the Vallon of the deep Eastworld. Anything less would be a crime on such an exquisite night.
A perfect night to die, he realized bitterly as he took another sip of wine.
Damn me, he cursed himself silently. Knowing full well he was already damned. If only she could have waited a little longer. Or better yet. If only he never fallen in love with the vicious woman in the first place. Then perhaps he could have just killed the bitch, finished his research, won the war, and finished his life as the greatest King that ever lived.
Unfortunately, it seemed destiny wasn’t nearly so kind. At least not to him. Not by a long shot.
